Here is a page to memorialize the art of carousels. In 1980 when San Diego Seaport Village was established an historical carousel was shipped to San Diego to be a showcase for the new village. It was called The Broadway Flying Horses Carousel. It was carved by Charles Loof for William F. Mangels, circa 1890. All of the animals on the carousel had been dipped in a solution to remove the old painted finish. However the glue that had been used in the original construction of the carousel was rabbit glue. The stripping solution dissolved all the glue and the animals were in pieces! They got shipped anyway and the new owner received boxes of random pieces, a huge jumble, puzzle pieces to be rebuilt. That was the beginning of the Seaport Village carousel. More to come...
